Film Market in China to Overtake US in 2017
Mar 24, 2016 By eChinacities.com

Since 2003, the Chinese film industry has opened up to market and continued to expand. In the past decade, the yearly box office sales exponentially grew from 1 billion RMB to 44.1 billion RMB. According to some US media outlets, box office earnings in China will likely outtake that of the US in 2017, becoming the largest film market in the world.

According to available data, in 2015 more film tickets were sold online in China than by any other outlet. 83% of total tickets sold in Shanghai were online and Henan 64%, for example. China box office success has been buoyed by the popularization of handheld devices and mobile internet, rather than by any quality of films.
