FIFA World Cup Tours a Hard Sell in Changchun

FIFA World Cup Tours a Hard Sell in Changchun

2010 FIFA World Cup will be held in 9 different cities in South Africa starting June 11th. This is the first time Africa has ever hosted the World Cup event. It is estimated that at least 450,000 soccer fans and visitors will be attending the event this year. Travel agencies in Changchun have recently launched a “FIFA World Cup Tour” but because the price tag is a bit too expensive for tourists' liking, they've had a hard time marketing the tour to travelers.

The tour consists of a 7-day 5-night set travel plan that includes airfare, hotel and tickets to see the games, and is priced around 27,000 RMB. For tours to see the more popular final match for the World Cup title, the price tag is even higher – 38,000 RMB. Regular tours to South Africa are priced at 14,800 RMB or less, but tour prices have more than doubled in anticipation of the World Cup.
