On October 10, a driver collided with a young man riding a bicycle in a Wenzhou intersection. The young man, Lin, was not injured, but his bicycle was damaged. Zhang, the driver had swerved into the bike lane to avoid hitting a BMW. Zhang agreed to fix the bike as compensation, but was shocked to find out that the bike was actually worth over 110,000 Yuan.
The bike was a Colnago CG model imported from Italy. At first Zhang did not believe the price tag, and went to a bicycle dealer the next day to confirm the price. The bike is nicknamed the “Ferrari of bicycles,” by enthusiasts.
Replacing the frame of the bike costs 48,000 Yuan, the wheels cost 25,000 Yuan, the handlebars cost 3,700 Yuan, the rear derailleur cost 3,600 Yuan, and the cushion cost 2,066 Yuan. The entire fix-job would cost Zhang an estimated 82,366 Yuan.
Zhang had worked as a taxi driver for 10 years. He shared his car with a friend, and earned about 3,000 Yuan a month in income as a driver.
On October 14, Zhang’s insurance company assessed the damage to the bicycle. The company reported that they would cover 80% of the damages, while Zhang had to cover the remaining 20%.
Zhang said that according to the insurance company, he would have to pay more than 16,000 Yuan. In his view, the cushion and handlebars only had minor damage and did not need to be replaced.

If Bill Gates drives a cheap Toyota hybrid, then what can you think of a m*ron riding such an expensive bike? On the other hand, the taxi driver had it coming, they're some of the most st*pid and reckless drivers anywhere.

I would rather think of Bill Gates as a cheapskate. Colnagos are fantastic bikes, if he can afford it, why not?

Did you read the part where the word enthusiast was used? Maybe that's why he wanted a 110,000 rmb bike.

Yes, it seems some info is missing from the story. The question is why the taxi driver was forced to swerve, assuming he was in the correct lane.
