Dalian Travel Tips

Known by monikers like ''City of Travelers,'' ''City of Football,'' and ''The City of Fashion,'' Dalian has something for everyone. Sea breezes blowing over this coastal city keep it refreshingly cool in the summer, and pleasantly warm in the winter. Thus it draws tourists from all over the country and beyond at all times of the year.

The beaches of Jinshitan (Golden Pebble Beach), Fujiazhuang and Xinghai are three great sandy stretches in Dalian; each has excellent conditions for swimming and water sports.

The best time to visit Dalian is between June and October, though visitors are advised that the city is crowded with tourists during the school summer holidays from early July to late August.

Dalian is an ultra-modern, immaculately clean city with a cosmopolitan atmosphere. The streets around Zhongshan Square are filled with colonial-era buildings designed by Japanese, German and Russian architects. The city's squares burst into life in the evenings, when locals and tourists alike gather to dance and sing. And the square's lively atmosphere peaks when live football matches are broadcast on a giant screen.
