Cremation Mix-Up Causes Greater Suffering for Family of Deceased
Apr 22, 2013 By eChinacities.com

After passing away in Liuzhou’s Worker’s Hospital on April 15 at the age of 86, Mr. Li was placed in storage freezer 229 of the local funeral parlor. On the morning of April 16, a body from freezer 339 was listed for cremation, however due to what can only be assumed to be the result of incompetent undertaker work, Mr. Li’s body was the one that was pulled out instead and was cremated ahead of schedule.

During Mr Li’s memorial service on April 17, the family was shocked to discover that Li’s body had already been turned to ashes, depriving them of the chance to offer their final farewells. On April 18, the Liuzhou Civil Affairs Bureau punished the six workers responsible; two were given official warnings, one was transferred from their position and three were fired. They were also required to meet the family of the deceased and provide compensation for the emotional damage caused.
