Chongqing Introduces 72-Hour Visa Waiver; Applies to 45 Nationalities

On October 27, the State Council ratified a new 72-hour visa waiver in Chongqing. The waiver applies to nationals from 45 different countries (see list below) and is available to those travelling onwards to another country.

Under this new visa waiver program, travelers with valid flights to other destinations can exit the airport and tour around the Chongqing municipality visa-free for up to 72 hours. Chongqing is now the fifth territory of China to offer this 72-hour visa waiver after Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Chengdu.

Countries permitted to use 72-hour visa waiver

European Schengen countries

Austria, Belgium, Czech, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hellenic, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Holland, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland

Other European countries

Russia, the United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland, Cyprus, Bulgaria, Romania, Ukraine

Americas

United States, Canada, Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Chile

Asia Pacific

Australia, New Zealand

Asian countries/Middle East

South Korea, Japan, Singapore, Brunei, The United Arab Emirates, Qatar
