Chongqing police recently cracked a case of good old fashioned gold robbery with an unusual twist. Factory workers in a Chongqing electronics factory managed to steal 8 kilograms of gold in one year, with a net value of over 2 million RMB.
According to the workers they stole the gold by putting fragments of a metal which is more active than gold into a gauze bag, and putting the bag into a tub of liquid gold. The active metal fragments displace the gold matter in the liquid gold and the gold was sucked into the gauze bag. Ingenious.
They were foiled however when police noticed that a group of young men had been seen selling gold dust in the near vicinity of the factory. That, coupled with the fact that a nearby electronics company had recently reported an abnormally large loss of the liquid gold it used to plate electrical wires made the police put two and two together, and the workers were subsequently arrested.

I'm just amazed that the police stopped playing cards long enough to solve a crime!

Ingenious, but they couldn't think one step ahead. So, they got caught for being stupid.
