Chinese Man Lives at Beijing Airport Because Wife Won’t Let Him Drink

A Chinese man has been living at Beijing’s airport for nearly a decade because his wife won’t let him drink at home, according to reports.

Footage from Pear Video shows 53-year-old Wei Jianguo and his setup at Beijing Capital Airport, the world’s second busiest transport hub.

According to sina.cn, Wei was laid off from his job in 2008 and subsequently spent his days drinking.

He moved to the airport’s arrival hall when his wife forbade him from bringing alcohol into the house.

Wei has since lived at the airport, much as Tom Hanks did in the movie Terminal, only leaving occasionally to buy necessities he can’t find within the three terminals, which handled 9.4 million passengers combined in 2016.

Every night, Wei either buys his dinner from one of the airport’s shops or cooks for himself using an electric pan.

He then makes up a bed on the floor using blankets.

Wei insists he could go back home whenever he wants but is now used to living at the airport, which he describes as warm and cozy.

Wei receives RMB 1,000 per month from the government as compensation for losing his job.

It is reported that the airport authorities have tried to get Wei to leave to no effect.
