Chinese-Built “Hummer” and Fully Armed Police Begin Patrolling Wuhan Streets

On October 4th, four “Dongfeng Warrior” cross-road vehicles belonging to the city’s Special Forces took to the streets of Wuhan for the first time. Four members of the special force police were riding in each vehicle wearing bullet-proof vests, helmets, military glasses, and with m-95 sniper rifles in hand; not surprisingly the fully armed police presence attracted a great deal of attention from passers-by.

The “Warrior” vehicles are manufactured by Dongfeng Motor Company and are nicknamed “Chinese hummer” for their resemblance to the military vehicle. Wuhan Special Forces Police team captain Zhou Songtao told reporters that the vehicle is equipped with a 4.0 L 4-piston diesel engine and can go up to a speed of 150 km/hr. It consumes about 20 litres of diesel for every 100 km and is sold for 460,000 RMB each. The “Chinese hummer” is able to traverse ditches (up to 0.8 m deep) at relative ease and other rough terrains without losing speed. The vehicle can also climb slopes easily with an inclination up to 45°. It is also reported that even if the tires were torn, the vehicle can still continue on driving unaffected.
