China's first natural gas and electric hybrid power bus developed by Chongqing Hengtong Bus Co. Ltd. in Chongqing was first produced on Jan. 9.

The bus is 12 meters long, equipped with natural gas (CNG) and electric hybrid power systems. Compared with the same fully natural gas bus, it will save 27 percent more natural gas fuel, and be safer and quieter.

The first batch of this new type of bus was purchased by Chongqing Yiqi Bus Co. Ltd. and will run on the Chongqing and Guangzhou bus lines.
The bus is co-developed by Hengtong Bus Company and Yuchai Group, using the advanced technology of parallel hybrid power introduced by Eaton Corporation in the U.S.

Tests find the energy consumption ratio of the bus reached 22.9 percent. The bus will annually reduce over 500 kilograms of emission and save approximately 10,000 square meters of natural gas.
