Last week the ‘2014 China Wealth Report: Prospects and Strategy’ was released. What it revealed was rather shocking: the wealthiest 10 percent of the nation owns 63.9 percent of all national assets. This shows a massive, and worrying, discrepancy between China’s rich and poor.

It also revealed that the wealthiest top 5 percent owns an average asset value of around 2.6 million RMB, while for the wealthiest 1 percent it is just under 7.4 million RMB. The average household income of the top 1 percent is a lofty 1.15 million RMB per year.
