China's Internet Companies Mostly Male Dominated, Beijing Based

35.5% of Chinese Internet companies are located in Beijing, according to a 2015 report by the China Internet Association. 70% of employees at Internet companies in China are male.

China's Internet companies focus on mobile apps, e-commerce, and other tech categories.

Internet companies in China are mainly located in first tier cities: Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen. They are mostly concentrated in Beijing, which is often thought of as China's version of Silicon Valley.

Employees at Chinese Internet companies generally have two years of work experience and a bachelor's degree. Interestingly, employees at Internet companies tend to switch jobs frequently. According to the report, March and June are the peak times for job-hopping in the tech industry.

Average salaries for technically skilled employees at Internet companies are significantly higher than at other jobs. Marketing and sales employees earn a bit less than those with tech-related skills.

However, with a few years of work experience, non-technically skilled employees can catch up to their tech counterparts salary-wise. Someone who has been in an operational position for 10 years at an Internet company will make more than an employee working the technical side.
