The first Chinese-made ARJ21 regional aircraft was delivered to Chengdu Airlines from Shanghai on Sunday. The craft, also known as the “Flying Phoenix” is China’s first domestically made aircraft. The ARJ21 is a short-range aircraft with a range of 2225 to 37000 km and 78 to 90 seats. This kind of craft is mainly used for flights from major cities to surrounding smaller or medium cities.

The ARJ1 was approved by the state in April 2002, and had its first successful maiden flight in Shanghai in November 2008. Since then, the craft has accumulated 5,258 safe flight hours, and 2,942 take-offs and landings.

The plane is expected to be put into commercial operation in three months. Chengdu Airlines will use the plane in seven operating routes from Chengdu to Beijing, Shanghai Pudong, Nanjing, Kunming, Guiyang, Xi’an, and Wuhan.
