China to Develop Potato Industry, Create New Staple

The Ministry of Agriculture released a report on Tuesday on the promotion of the development of the potato as a staple food product in China. The report was titled “Guidance on Promoting the Development of the Potato Industry.”

China hopes to have 100 million mu (about 17 million acres) of potato fields by 2020. 30 percent of potatoes grown will be processed, and 30 percent will be consumed as whole potatoes.
