China is the World’s Largest Country for International Trade

On July 6, South Korean news site Chosun Online reported that China has already surpassed the US in terms of foreign trade volume making it the number one country in the world for foreign trade.

Citing WTO statistics, the South Korean Ministry of Trade and Industry announced that China’s foreign trade amounted to 1.3311 trillion USD in the past four months, exceeding the 1.2613 trillion USD of the US.

Moreover, statistics indicate that this gap is likely to grow in the months ahead, most likely securing China’s new-found title as top foreign trader in the world. However, some people are arguing that given the shortcomings in the value of Chinese products, China may be the number one country in terms of international trade volume, but this title doesn’t automatically imply that China is a “strong” trading country.
