China Still Struggling to Attract Tourists from Europe, the US

In 2015, nearly 134 million people entered Mainland China, an increase of 4.4%. The same year, 79 million people entered Hong Kong, according to the National Tourism Administration.

Mainland tourism has increased to Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan. Nearly 23 million Mainland Chinese entered Hong Kong and Macau in 2015, and about 5.5 million entered Taiwan. This marks an increase of 10.89% and 2.47% respectively. About 25 million foreign tourists entered China last year, a decrease of 1.42% from the previous year.

The largest numbers of foreign tourists to China are from South Korea, Japan, the United States, and Russia. 4.44 million South Koreans entered China last year, an increase of 6.28%. 2.49 million Japanese entered China, which is 8.09% less than in the previous year. 2 million Americans entered China, a slight decrease of 0.35%, and 1.58 million Russians entered China, a drop of 22.66% from last year. China had about 1 million visitors from its Asian neighbors including Malaysia, Mongolia, the Philippines and Singapore.

China’s tourism industry is in a recovery period, and has experienced slow growth. In 2015, Mainland China had trouble attracting tourists traveling for non-business related reasons, except for those from Taiwan, Macau, and Hong Kong. China especially has had trouble attracting European tourists. Revenues from both American and European tourists in 2015 fell by 20%.

Scams at every corners, pollution in every cities, cultural void, rude and aggressive people, condescending toward non-Chinese, xenophobia, China #1, double standards, low quality products and services, overpriced in addition to that, "you don't understand China". Mmmh, I wonder why is it China struggles to attract tourists.

Maybe, just maybe word has gotten out that China sucks as a tourist destination. All the important, interesting places are congested with hordes of Chinese tourists, ruining the overall experience in so many ways to list. Ad to that the general vibe of xenophobia, coupled with "China is #1" propaganda BS and this is the result. THERE ARE SO MANY OTHER PLACES THAT IS WORTH FOLKS TIME AND MONEY, PERIOD.
