Swiss Insurance Partners issued the “Quality of Nationality Index 2016,” report in Zurich last Thursday. China was ranked 60th and was included in the list of high quality countries, and Germany was ranked first. The report attempts to independently measure the value of a person’s nationality.

Daily Herald reported on Friday that 182 countries were included in the report. Germany was ranked number one, followed by Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden, and Iceland (which was tied with Sweden). The United States was ranked 28th, Japan 30th, and South Korea 36th. Countries in the bottom of rankings are mainly in Africa and the Middle East. The bottom five countries are the Democratic Republic of Congo, Central African Republic, Eritrea, Sudan, and Burundi.

China has been moving up in the rankings since 2012 when it was first ranked at 68th. China’s ranking has increased because of the nation’s economic growth amongst other factors.

The Quality of National Index ranks more than just a nation’s passport. The comprehensive rankings evaluate two major components: intrinsic value—which includes economic and human development index (life expectancy, adult literacy rates, etc.)—and external value. External value includes the ability to travel and settle in other countries.

The ranks are divided into four levels: very high-quality, high-quality, medium quality, and low quality. The survey states that Chinese is considered a high-quality nationality.

The only true measure of "quality" or whatever that means is where a passport can take you. Nothing better than the collective judgement of 200+ nations on your conditions of entry and stay. One more BS report from some cryptic organization that just lost all credibility.
