Chinese supercomputer Sunway TaihuLight has taken the number one spot in the most recent Top500 list of supercomputers published on Monday. The computer performed three times better than China’s previous top-performing supercomputer which held the number one spot for the past three years. The Taihu Light is five times more powerful than the leading U.S. supercomputer which ranks third.

The Sunway TaihuLight was developed by the National Supercomputing Center in Wuxi. It has a Linpack mark of 93 petaflops.

“As the first number one system of China that is completely based on homegrown processors, the Sunway TaihuLight system demonstrates the significant progress that China has made in the domain of designing and manufacturing large-scale computation systems,” Center director Dr. Yang Guangwen told Top500 News.

This is the first time that China has more machines on the Top500 list than the United States. China has 167 supercomputers on the list and the U.S. has 165.

The Top500 list is published every six months and related conferences are held alternatively in Germany and the United States.

In the summer of 2015, China had 37 supercomputers on the list. In November 2015, China had 109 units, beating out Europe and Japan. Six months later, China had the most supercomputers in the world.

Do you know why China is starting to have better technology than the US? It's because the schools in China focus on teaching their children STEM subjects. Chinese kids are way ahead of American kids when it comes to math and science. In America, kids in school focus on idiotic liberal arts courses. American kids are way behind in math and science. American kids go to school to socialize, goof off, and participate in extracurricular sports. They don't go there to learn.

China is still technologically behind. Because America can import the best minds. Test scores are not a good indication of actual performance. Also China only puts the scores of their best schools so the average is skewed upwards. America is a dumb country but China is way ahead of us
