China Mobile Introduces All-Purpose Card for Hangzhou Mobile Phone Users
Jun 28, 2010 By eChinacities.com

China Mobile’s Hangzhou branch recently introduced a new product – an all-purpose card for mobile phones users called Mobile Resident Card, or Chengshitong (城市通). The card was developed jointly by the Hangzhou Residents Card Company, China Mobile (Hangzhou branch), and the Chengshitong Card Company. Mobile phone users will be able to use the all-purpose smart card as a SIM card, to pay for local services and goods, and a transportation card. Hangzhou residents will be able to use their phones for shopping, information updates, and other daily conveniences.

With the smart card, residents will be able to use their mobile phones to pay bus fare, buy groceries, checkout free bikes during their commute and buy fuel at gas stations. Users can also charge money to their SIM cards online. This eliminates the need to queue up to refill one’s metro card, and saves valuable time during commutes.

From June 25th to July 12th, China Mobile in Hangzhou has initiated a savings promotion to encourage Hangzhou residents to try out the all-purpose smart cards.

The promotion is targeting at residents living in downtown Hangzhou (including Xiasha and Binjiang districts).

To apply, bring ID information to any of the following China Mobile offices:
