Chengdu Railway Stations

The Chengdu Railway Station is the largest in southwest China. It links directly to major cities across China, including Beijing (26 hours), Shanghai (28 hours), Kunming (18 hours), Chongqing (2 hrs) and Xi'an (12.5 hours). The railway station is located north of the city, and can be reached from the city by bus for 1 RMB or by taxi for approximately 15 RMB.

In addition, the East Railway Station, located near Longhua Road off of the Fifth Section of East Third Ring Road, opened in May 2011. The station mainly operates Chengdu-Chongqing express trains (although the first and second morning trains and the final evening train departs from North Railway Station), Chengdu-Dazhou express trains and other trains passing through the Dacheng Railway and Chengsui Railway.

Chengdu South Railway Station is located at 1 South Railway Station in the Wuhou District. Some trains running on Chengdu-Kunming Railway and Chengdu-Chongqing Railway pass through the station, while most departing trains head for Panzhihua, Xichang and Chongqing North Station.

There are three different ways to book a train ticket in Chengdu: over the phone, online and at the ticket window. Tickets can be purchased over the telephone 4-12 days in advance. If you want to reserve tickets for a train departing between 6:00-12:00, the tickets must be picked up on the evening prior to departure between 12:00-24:00. If you want to reserve tickets for a train departing between 12:00-23:00, the tickets must be picked up in the morning on the day of departure between 24:00-12:00. Tickets are non-transferable and are void if not used on the scheduled day. To book tickets online, log on to www.12306.cn. Tickets can be reserved daily from 7:00-23:00 up to twelve days in advance, and can be collected any day after purchase and before the train leaves. Tickets can also be bought at the ticket window up to 10 days in advance. 

Hotels and hostels can also arrange travel for a 30 RMB service fee, which saves you the need to queue at the station or find an agency.
