Snacking in Sichuan is more akin to slurping a bowl of light soup rather than popping open a bag of potato chips. Few snacks are sweet, and one commonly sits down to eat them, as opposed to munching while you stroll. Snacks containing sliced meats are often served as an appetizer at restaurants.
Lai Tangyuan (Lai's Glutinous Rice Ball) and Guo Tangyuan 赖汤圆 郭汤圆
Fuqi Feipian 夫妻肺片
Though this dish’s rather disturbing name (Slices of a Married Couple’s Lungs) is entirely misleading, the actual contents of fuqi feipian are not exactly comforting. Consisting of beef heart and tongue sliced thin and served cold, fuqi feipian was named after the loving couple who invented the spicy snack. Available from many restaurants, but Jingchengyuan specializes in this dish.

One of Sichuan’s few well-known sweets, these two similar but separate snacks are made with glutinous rice (a gelatin-like rice product) and rolled into balls. The latter, guotangyuan, is typically stuffed with sugared sesame or bean paste.
