Chengdu Dujiangyan to Restore Ancient Landmark Sites

The City East Gate (东门城楼Dongmen Cheng Lou), a landmark building nostalgic of the old architectural style that has been planned in the old Dujiangyan district of Chengdu, has started construction and is scheduled to be completed May of this year. Once completed, tourists passing into the cultural district of Dujiangyan will have to go under this newly built gate. Investment is around 2.8 billion RMB. Dujiangyan district is a historic spot that has over 2,000 years of history and is home to a number of cultural buildings and landmark sites related to the development of water travel in ancient China. The district is also home to a number of ancient courtyards, homes, and public facilities that represents different periods of history in the development of the area. Aside from the City East Gate, City West Gate (Ximen Cheng) Building and Xishu Pagoda are two other landmarks planned for undergoing construction in the renovations project. Running water from nearby Minjiang River will also be brought into the district – making it an ideal attraction for tourists looking for that old town with meandering waters feel.
