A residential building in Hongkou District, Shanghai collapsed at approximately 05:00 yesterday morning, killing two and injuring at least three.

Around four people escaped unharmed and three have been rescued and are currently in hospital. Firefighters are continuing their efforts to locate and safely remove the residents from the collapsed premises.

The building was a two storey brick and wood structure situated on Xingang Road. Initial reports indicate that the collapse was due to an explosion caused by a liquid petroleum gas steel cylinder, but further investigations will soon be underway.
