Brief Intro to Shenzhen Shopping

Shenzhen was one of the first Chinese cities open to the outside world, due in large part to its proximity to Hong Kong. More than just a developing metropolis, Shenzhen is considered a shopping haven to domestic and international travelers and even Hong Kong residents, many of whom cross the border on weekends for all-out shopping sprees and bargain hunting. The city has a wonderful selection of shopping centers, department stores and boutiques ranging from the inexpensive to the exuberant. Shopaholics who venture to Shenzhen at least once in their lifetime are not likely to forget the experience.

Electrical appliances are probably some of the best in all of mainland China and fashionable clothing, jewelry, footwear, electronics and cosmetics are plentiful.

Reputed as the number one shopping center of Shenzhen, Dongmen Pedestrian Street is usually the first destination for serious shoppers. The street is lined with specialty stores, boutiques, and entertainment venues. Women's World is also an ideal place for women's clothing, make-up and of course, shoes. There are a few children's and men's stores here but as the name suggests, Women's World caters mostly to women.

Other shopping districts such as Nan Shan, Renmen Nan, Shen Nan Zhong and Huaqiao all have their own characteristics. Sino-British Street in Yantian is a popular shopping venue since it offers products from the mainland, Hong Kong and abroad. Its biggest attraction however is the tax-free policy which lets you enjoy goods for cheap for which you would pay a hefty tax elsewhere.
