Guangzhou Metro authorities recently announced that they plan to have 25,971 rental bikes available at 80 metro stations by 2012. There are already plans for 2,500 rental bikes to be in place near metro stations by the November opening of the Asian Games. The Metro has already begun the paperwork necessary for stationing rental bikes near Lines 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 8.
Currently, there are temporary rental stations for 999 bikes near four transit exchange hubs – Kengkou, Nanpu, Hanxi Changlong, Haibang. There is also an automated bike rental lot near West Tiyu Rd Station, about 20 meters away from Exit G, making it very convenient for residents to just hop on a bike when commuting short distances to the next metro station.
