Beijing’s PM2.5 Air Pollution Getting Worse

According to Wang Yuesi, a researcher at the Institute of Atmospheric Physics at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, from 1998 to 2010, the number of "foggy" days in Beijing has increased due to the increase in PM2.5, which has seen a 300-400% increase annually. Wang Yuesi also noted that counter-measures to curb PM10 pollution in recent years have seen some initial successes, but that the increase in PM2.5 pollution has detracted from it. PM10 pollution likely exceeds the quota by about 20-30% annually, but when PM2.5 pollution is added to that, it’s likely that the quota is exceeded by more than 50%.
