Beijing to Enforce Number Plate Restrictions During High Pollution Days
Oct 17, 2013 By eChinacities.com

On October 16 a plan was approved to enforce a number plate restriction during heavy pollution days. The restrictions will be enforced whenever Beijing predicts severe pollution to last for more than three days.

The new measure means that cars whose license plate number ends in an odd number cannot drive on the “odd number days”, while even numbers can’t hit the road on the “even number days”. Residents will be given a 12 hour notice when the measure kicks in.

In order to accommodate car owners affected by the restrictions, Beijing’s subway service will extend its operating hours by half an hour on these days.
