Beijing to Ban Smoking in Offices, Queues for Public Transport
Apr 13, 2015 By eChinacities.com

On June 1, Beijing will implement its strictest anti-smoking policy yet. The policy was passed back in November by the Beijing Municipal People's Congress and bans smoking in indoor workplaces and restricts smoking in queues outdoors while waiting for public transportation. Individual violators will be fined up to 200 Yuan, and workplaces can be fined up to 10,000 Yuan. The new regulations are adopted from tobacco regulation standards from the World Health Organization.

The city has set up a hotline, 12320, through which citizens can report violations. Citizens can also take photos of those violating the rules and send them to “No Smoking Beijing.” If a certain individual or office is repeatedly reported, then they will be investigated by relevant departments.

Having a law is one thing, enforcing it is another. A lot of places ban smoking in theory but nobody does anything about it.
