During a news conference on July 2, the China Meteorological Administration announced that in the past six months, Beijing has seen a total of “18 smoggy days”, which is the highest since 1960.
The Administration stated that the smog was caused by lack of torrential rain, and a high frequency of rain coupled with high levels of humidity which caused the haze to hang in the air for long periods of time.
