Beijing Population to Reach 25 Million by 2020
Jul 22, 2010 By eChinacities.com

By the end of 2009, Beijing’s population had reached 19.72 million; 7.26 million were migrants (those without a permanent household registry in Beijing) that had lived in the city for more than 6 months. During the 4-year period starting in 2006, Beijing’s population has consistently grown at a rate of 543,000/year – 70% of which are migrants. Studies have predicted that should this trend of population growth continue, Beijing will have a population of 25 million by the year 2020. The original population target for 2020 set by city planners in charge of population control was 18 million.
