Beibei-Xipeng Section of Outer Ring Expressway Opened to Traffic

The Beibei-Xipeng section of the outer ring expressway, Chongqing's most costly expressway thus far, is officially opening to traffic on Dec. 26. Drivers on this section will be charged 0.6 yuan/km per vehicle; according to Chongqing Express Development Co., Ltd. Investment in the outer ring has totaled around 13.18 billion yuan, with a total length of 187km in eastern, western, southern, and northern sections. The Beibei-Xipeng section is 58km long: 51km belong to the western section and the remaining 7km are part of the southern section, via Beibei, Shapingba, Jiangjin and Jiulongpo, connecting to the Yusui, Chengyu and Yuwu expressways respectively. This two-way six-lane expressway is 34.5m wide and 26cm thick, 6-8cm thicker than ordinary expressways, designed for speeds of up to 120km/h.
