The area named Zhuhai covers a total area of 7,836 square kilometers, only about 1,701 square kilometers of which is land. Zhuhai includes 217 islands, and has a coastline of 224.5 kilometers. Zhuhai borders the Macau Special Administrative Region, Jiangmen to the northwest and Zhongshan to the north.
Zhuhai has about 1.56 million residents. Among the city’s permanent residents, there are 812,466 males and 747,763 females, accounting for 52.07% and 47.93% of the total population respectively. About 48 ethnic groups live in Zhuhai, the three largest being Zhuang, Tujia and Yao who mainly keep to the Xiangzhou District.
