Airbus SAS, the France based aircraft manufacturer has announced plans to use Tianjin as a hub for direct aircraft deliveries around Asia.

Tianjin is home to the only Airbus final assembly line outside of Europe, and will become a base for the company’s Asia operations.

So far, AirAsia, Malaysia’s budget airline is the only foreign airline to operate an Airbus assembled in Tianjin. The factory has previously assembled and delivered 172 aircraft to 13 different carriers around China.

Airbus hopes that Asian customers will be attracted by the new development, as ferry flight costs will be significantly reduced.

The move is part of a ten-year joint venture to build cooperation between Airbus, Aviation Industry Corp of China and Tianjin Municipal Authorities.
