On July 23rd, the new Feng Xiaogang movie Aftershock premiered in theaters all across Shenzhen. The movie is cast with famous Chinese actors and actresses including Xu Fan, Zhang Jingchu, Chen Daoming and Li Chen. In the four days since it first premiered, the tear jerker movie about the great earthquake disaster in Tangshan has become a big hit at the box offices. The movie which premiered at the Shenzhen Haian Cinema City on midnight of July 23rd attracted over 120 viewers and the first week earnings at the box office have already reached 550,000 RMB – with nearly 13,000 viewers in total. Reception for the movie Aftershock is very much comparable to the raving popularity of Hollywood blockbuster Avatar when it hit theaters earlier on this year in Shenzhen.
