Beijing police announced on August 19th, that more than 80,000 employees with different entertainment centers in the city have already registered their names and information with the police department, and received their IC (“smart”) employment cards. Police now require all employees to carry their IC cards with them when working. Every entertainment center is responsible for having their employees register for their electronic smart cards. Those venues found to be employing staff without the required smart cards will face being shut down for up to three months for not complying with regulations.

At the moment, over 1,000 dance clubs, game centers and other entertainment centers in Beijing have had their employees registered at the police departments; a total of 80,000 people. The cards are good for use in the city perimeter, and include the employee’s identification information. Workers are also required to swipe their cards when clocking in and out; those not carrying the required IC cards cannot legally work.
