Crank up your air conditioner and stay in the house this week: many areas of China will be hit by a heat wave.

The Yangtze River Delta has been experiencing a major heat wave with temperatures as high as 40℃. On July 25, many cities in the region were as hot as 40℃. The Central Metrological Station posted an orange warning for high temperatures in the area yesterday.

Northern South China, Jiangnan, Jianghuai, southern Huanghuai, southern North China, eastern Sichuan Basin, Chongqing, Guizhou, northern and eastern Xinjiang, and northwestern Gansu will experience temperatures today from 35 to 39 ℃. Some of these regions will reach 40-41℃.

The major cities in the Yangtze River Delta are Chongqing, Hangzhou, Nanchang, Shanghai, and Nanjing. 700 million people have been affected by the heat wave.

The Yangtze River Basin and South China may see temperatures up to 50℃ this summer.
