Would you eat an egg soaked in urine? The local delicacy is a spring favorite in the city of Dongyang. The New York Times recently published an article on “virgin boy eggs” in the Zhejiang city. The eggs, soaked in the urine of young boys, have been listed as “intangible cultural heritage” since 2008. Many locals believe that the special eggs can enhance strength, improve blood circulation and prevent heat stroke. The “virgin boy eggs,” sell at around 2 RMB each.
To cook the “virgin boy eggs” chefs follow a time-honored recipe. They first soak the eggs in urine and bring the pot to a boil. Then they remove the eggs, crack the shells, and put the eggs back in the pot. The eggs simmer in the urine a day. The chefs add more urine and sometimes add herbs. The eggs turn pale gold and the yokes turn green. Wu Bei, 29, an employee at Zhang Yuming Chinese Medicine Clinic in Dongyang said that the eggs taste very salty.
Modern science has confirmed that there are no nutritional benefits in drinking urine. However, locals in Dongyang all praise the eggs for keeping them in good health and bringing “the taste of spring.”

"Necessary?! Is it necessary for me to drink my own urine? No. But I do it anyway because it's sterile and I like the taste." So Patches O'Hoolihan was from Dongyang?

I promise you, this sort of news about China, make me stop job hunting in this country. It can't be put any better to describe how much the cultural heritage of this country petrifies me to death in an instant. Then I remember to run and don't look back again. "This is China!" I slap my face in awe and shock when I hear this sentence only. What else when I read about such cultural heritage. Thanks, but no thanks.

"Modern science has confirmed that there are no nutritional benefits in drinking urine. However, locals in Dongyang all praise the eggs." Why? "No why! We have 5000 year history. Now I go eat placenta, dog and rhino horn so my soldier salute. You no understand stupid laowei." Just when I think their ignorance can't astonish me more than it already has, I find this sick s**t out.

Don't judge until you try. You will be pleasantly surprised. I have heard of so many laowai converts to the piss eggs. Also the supposed health benefits are probably more to do with holistic well being rather than straight up nutrician, although pee can contain a lot of vitamin C.

The article right next to this one is about an American pedophile...does anybody else see an implied connection here?..Maybe an Eastern influence on Western thinking? Certainly the distinction of being "virgin" connotates a sexual proclivity with children.
