Another tale of disrespect and rudeness during E-bike altercations has made headlines. When the story first broke it sounded very much like the old tale of good Samaritans in China being blamed for causing the accidents.
First reports described a foreigner getting off his E-bike and trying to help a woman up when she had fallen off her bike next to him. At which point the woman started blaming him, saying he had hit her and grabbed onto his bike so he couldn’t leave. She then demanded he pay 1800 RMB in “hospital fees”, which he refused.
However, as the day has gone on and video and photos of the incident have been uploaded, the tide is turning against the foreigner. Swearing at the woman in Chinese saying, “F**k you old lady, you are a liar. You saw I was a foreigner and are trying to cheat me of my money” did him no good in front of the online ‘jury’. Discoveries that his vehicle was unlicensed also did not help, and now many believe that he did in fact hit the woman, despite his and his girlfriends protestations that he didn’t.
Well who knows what to believe, but it clear from the two parties actions that they both think they are very much in the right.

I looked at the video, it seems to speed up, also I am not sure about the X-rays, if the woman had a broken collar bone she would not be talking with the Doctor like she is. I am not defending no one here. I recently had an experience where I offered some compensation for the person, and all of a sudden they wanted more money and actually stole money off the front seat of my car, also the person tried to take money from the pocket of my jacket. All I can say to people reading this, "Money is not everything" BTW you people who swear and say bad about people I think you should re-think your attitudes, maybe one day you will be helped by a person who doesn't want your stinking money!!

Based on the video. He was in the wrong. Inexplicably wrong. Thank god no one was seriously hurt. Make your peace. Move on. Remember your mistakes. He doesn't deserve to get hanged for it and she doesn't deserve any scorn.

I once rode my bike and turned right like this guy. A lady coming from the same street planned to go straight and started crossing the road, so I aimed my bike behind her. A car coming from the right decided to cut off the corner though, turning into the street both the lady and I were coming out of, and the lady saved her ass by making a dead stop and even a step back. I was right behind her, missed her by millimeters and shouted something so we both had an unpleasant surprise and some adrenaline flowing, but nothing really happened. Even after watching the footage I'm not convinced this guy deserves all we wish to him or the names we call him. We can't see what happens in front of him - a car driving on the left to be the first to reach the zebra - or a tricycle loaded with building materials blocking his way - another electric biker on the wrong side causing the woman to make an unforeseeable move? He's going pretty fast, it seems, and the chaos of traffic condemns us to be so much more careful, but we all needed some time to learn that, right? I did, anyway, and I'm glad I haven't had this kind of accident happen to me or by me. Interesting that the article mentions 'a lady who had fallen off her bike' and the video seems to show a lady on foot.

Yeah I think the article was wrong. She was crossing the road and he obviously slammed into her. But it looks like it caught her off gaurd... like she didn't TRY to rush into his bike... He hit her, when he should have slowed or went around her. If it was me... I would have come to a complete stop if necessary...

Okay this little PRICK, clearly knocked into her. By the camera footage it is obvious she was crossing the street and he ran DIRECTLY into her. This little peice of shit deserves to be flamed to death right now. Not only did he not own his mistake, he swears at her and calls her names. Chinese people, please make an example of this guy... Foreigners like this piss me off... all people like this piss me off... zhe ge sha bi dang ran shi cuo le.

If that video is authentic, I'm going to have to agree with the comments on here. This was not some low speed collision. If he hit someone at that speed and got away with only paying 1800yuan he should consider himself lucky.

Thanks for the video. This asshole should be stripped of every cent then sent back to wherever he's from. We do not need people like this making us look bad. Guys like this work in support of China's campaign against foreigners.

I love how people are claiming that there is a video that clearly shows ...., but no one is posting a link. That tells you everything you need to know. And 2 random deaths of foreigners (Swede in Shanghai, Aussie in Shenzhen) plus random attacks of foreigners b organized groups looking to instigate trouble. (Small guy approaches first trying to talk smack, then the rest will jump in) I said it before I'll say it again, This country is quickly becoming North Korea.

That got me thinking about what happened earlier tonight... Some random guy I'd never seen before walked up to me while I was grabbing dinner with my girlfriend and started asking what I was doing with 'that Chinese girl' (or bitch, as I heard 小姐 can also mean as much in some cases, correct me if I'm wrong...). It was just the way he said it and the choice of words that rubbed me the wrong way, so I turned and asked what he was talking about, and he just kept saying similar stuff. In hindsight the guy must have noticed how annoyed I looked, yet kept saying the stuff with a big grin on his face, even as I turned around and walked off. I'm wondering whether I just completely misread the situation, or people are actually starting to instigate fights with random foreigners for the hell of it, which wouldn't be a great development...

http://video.sina.com.cn/p/news/c/v/2013-12-03/201263214951.html So we have a total of 2 random deaths total, damn, that's a lot. Do you know how many hate crime there is in America or Europe against minorities? Same mentality like the media saying: oh no, 3 American dead in Iraq, that's terrible! Media doesn't show the millions of Iraqis died in the war by American bombs. That's the same mentality saying American live is worth more than anybody else. So hate crime is normal against minority, but if one white person is dead, it's so tragic!

The guy is not Chinese, not yellow (presumably), and not politically connected... hence, of course he's guilty.

I just watched the TV, which mentioned this story. Video footage from a CCTV shows very clearly the guy on his e-bike crossing the crossroad like a jackass, Chinese style. Then he hits full speed the woman. From what was said on the TV, the guy try to get out of it without a cent, and insulting the woman on the top of that. I clap my hands, and thanks for the reputation mate, we needed some more of that. From what I see, foreigners are no better than the locals, crossing at red light, go counter-way on a bikelane, riding on the walkway, and so on. Not a minority: more than half of them I see on my daily commute. Even exchange students who stay for a few months (SKEMA business schools students, I'm looking at you, you punks) So who's biased ? To me, foreigners (I'm from Europe, as my ancestors) are as biased, selfish and rotten on the inside as the people here. As if it was some contagious disease. If you feel so much above, God damn it, behave accordingly !!!

While I may agree to some extent with what you are saying, I would amicably advise you avoiding such generalizations "To me, foreigners (I'm from Europe, as my ancestors) are as biased, selfish and rotten on the inside as the people here". Even if that is your opinion, neither all Chinese are the same, nor you shall be disregarding the factor of individuality, when ascribed to a being.

I completely agree with you... but then I see this pattern. Some 100% chinese mess, every single commenter will say "hu, of course". A foreigner is involved, commenter will go "bloody biased chinese". And if the news does not fit this pattern, then the media are biased liars, of course. Meanwhile, I look outside, and what I'm seeing : Westerners ride their bikes as badly as the locals, in a massive majority. Okay, in Suzhou, not exactly a backwater. Am I living in a warped reality ? Or commenters have their objectivity deeply buried in their pockets ?

I agree that a lot of foreigners here drive just as poorly as the locals, and of course it's idiotic how it's usually the same people who complain about Chinese society who are the first to drop their own morals and act like morons. On the other hand, even knowing there are some rotten apples out there, I find the developments in the Chinese media worrying, where the number of news articles popping up about foreigners acting poorly makes it seem as though every single one came to China just to stir up shit, without the media ever bothering to go deeper into the story to find out exactly what was going on (e.g. in some cases a misunderstanding/cultural difference might've caused someone to act inappropriately without any malicious intent).

Jeez, honestly... do you know the chances of a foreigner randonly pushing down an old Chinese woman for no explicable reason? It's extremely rare and yet there seems to be a lot of cases popping up. What is more likely? Foreigners going around pushing people down so we can pay them money... or Chinese are trying to exploit the social situation and idiotic judgements from from legal proceedings. Because, they feel the crowd will side with them over a foreigner. This guy should have handled it with a little more class but I do understand his anger.

Lying cheating fucking Chinese. I tell you if you have anything to do with China or Chinese you will get cheated and badly. If you do not know this then you truly have your head in the sand. Of course she is going to fall off her bike next to a foreigner. !! STUPID ass westerner !! Wake up man. !!
Dec 03, 2013 18:40 Report Abuse
The footage doesn't lie man. The foreigner was clearly and unequivocally at fault; the woman was not. Clearly, she is neither a cheat nor a liar nor exploiting the situation. He then acted like a knob and slandered the poor woman. So it's not a case of ethical rocket science: The dude must be apologetic and pay for a medical check. He was always gonna have to pay something, but if he'd had a clue about what to do, he probably could've managed to pay her off for much less and keep the peace. If that were my mother or mother in law, I'd be hitting up this cheeky twat for both medical costs and damages.
