59% of Chinese Computers Infected with Malware

Recently, Microsoft conducted a survey on laptops in over 40 Chinese cities. The results are more than a little disconcerting: 59% of computers in China are infected with malware and 72% of computers have had their browser settings changed before they even reach consumers. According to Microsoft, pirated operating systems are not installed by the manufacturer, but are installed by individuals or loaded on to computers after they were shipped to a distributor, transporter or reseller. In the future, Windows can only be installed by the manufacturer or downloaded from the official website to prevent the occurrence of cybercrime.

Why is this a surprise? Prior to MS tightening up almost all PCs used hacked windows (like tomato). Even now most other s/w is downloaded for "free". Not open source - just hacked stuff posted online.

Block China Unicom and other ISP direct pop-ups from DNS Poisoning by using Firefox with "No Script" add-on. These wo.cn pop-ups are deliberate injections from the Internet Service Provider and not a virus. Spread the word.
