500 Painters in Shenzhen Paint Mona Lisa for Expo
Feb 03, 2010 By eChinacities.com

On Jan. 28 in Dafen Cun, Shenzhen, 500 painters spent 4 hours completing 999 oil paintings which will be pieced together at the Shenzhen Pavilion for Shanghai Expo. No word yet on what exactly the giant painting is of, though local papers have mentioned the Mona Lisa. Whichever it is, the painting and the pavilion will be showcasing Shenzhen, as one of the six cities in Guangdong Province to be staged and honored at the Expo. Dafen Cun, the small village home to 800 self-run galleries and thousands of painters, will be the theme at the Expo, to highlight the creativity, spirits and imagination that have inspired and driven the city’s rapid development in the past 30 years.
