On February 27th, a 24-year old woman, in an attempt to commit suicide, climbed out onto the ledge under a window on the 32nd floor of a building under construction in Changsha. For the next three hours, police tried talking her off the ledge to no avail. Finally at 15:40, the police were able to grab a hold of her legs and forcefully pull her in to safety through the window on the floor below. While crouching on the ledge, the 24-year old woman was seen talking on her cell phone. She was also holding a small sharp stone, which she’d tried to use to slit her left wrist. Following the rescue, the woman was taken to the Xin'an Police Station, where she was overheard complaining that she'd failed to kill herself. According to the police report, she was originally from Pinjiang County outside of Yueyang City in Hunan Province, and had previously participated in a dating show on television. When asked why she wanted to kill herself, she repeatedly said: "I don't have love, I don’t have a job, my family hates me, and everyone is very disappointed in me."
