Uzbeks Munira Zulpikharova and Mastura Ishkuvatova along with three other Chinese suspects were arrested on January 31 for the kidnapping of a foreigner in Yiwu in December 2012. There is reportedly another suspect still on the run. Zulpikharova, who came to Yiwu in September 2011, was reportedly connected to the prostitution business, and was trying to get money to cure an illness which he was diagnosed with in December 2012. With the assistance of Ishkuvatova and Chinese accomplices, he kidnapped a fellow Uzbek woman on 30 December 2012, who they’d planned to sell for 10,000 USD. After the criminals were arrested, Zhejiang authorities received approval for the review of policies regarding the arrest of foreign criminals.
