14 People Shot and Killed By Police During Xinjiang Riot

According to the Government news portal, Tianshan, Police were attacked by a mob throwing explosives and wielding knives when trying to arrest “criminal suspects” in a village near Kashgar, Xinjiang Province.

During the ensuing riot 14 people were shot and killed by police, while two police officers were killed. According to the brief statement issued by the government, two people have been detained and an investigation has been launched.

Xinjiang has been under heightened security since October, when a car crashed into tourists in Tiananmen square before exploding, and last month nine civilians and two police officers were killed when a group of people armed with axes and knives attacked a police station near Kashgar.
