The 11th Beijing Music Festival will raise its curtains this autumn. For three weeks starting October 2, established soloists, renowned orchestras and opera houses from all over the world will perform 20 concerts and operas in Beijing.

Chinese conductor Yu Long has been the artistic director of the festival for 11 years. He says the annual festival has become one of the world's leading classical music festivals.

"The Beijing Music Festival has become a world renowned brand. It's now one of the three most significant music festivals in the world," Yu Long told CRI reporter.

Wang Jiyan, Secretary-General of the festival says this year's programs are highlighted by operas.

"The 11th Beijing Music Festival focused on grand operas, especially the two master pieces from the German operatic literature," he said. "One is Richard Strauss' Der Rosenkavalier, another is Wagner's Tannhauser."

This year, the Festival will offer three free concerts to children and students, including a performance by the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra.
