As one of the most popular destinations for snow and ice activities in China, Harbin gets more than its fair share of overseas and domestic tourists. However, its popularity as a tourist destination isn’t reflected in its accommodation options; at the time of writing, Harbin only has two youth hostels: Harbin Kazy International Youth Hostel and North International Youth Hostel. Not surprisingly, these two hostels have become a hotspot for backpackers and budget-conscious tourists.

1) Harbin Kazy International Youth Hostel 哈尔滨卡兹国际青年旅舍 View In Map
Kazy International Youth Hostel is housed within what once used to be a synagogue. Centrally located, the hostel is within walking distance of Central Avenue and Sofia Square. Much of the synagogue’s interior and style has been preserved, giving the venue a unique vibe and appearance.

The hostel has sleeping options for both individual and group travelers, from single rooms to shared dorm-style ones. Facilities include a cable TV in each room, 24 hour hot water, private bathrooms, WIFI internet, self-service laundry, public telephone and computers, a small reading room with free reading material, a shop, travel info services, luggage storage, ticket booking services etc. You can also pick up a wide range of useful brochures about travelling in Dongbei, car rental, tourist attractions etc. The hostel also provides tourists with travel essentials such as seasonal clothing, hats, shoes etc.

Customers should take note that rooms must be vacated before 12:00 the next day, otherwise they must pay an additional 50% of the room fee. Customers who vacate the room after 18:00 the next day will be charged the full price of a room. People with international youth hostel membership can avail of a 10% discount when booking rooms.

2) Harbin North International Youth Hostel哈尔滨北方国际青年旅舍 View In Map
This is the first youth hostel in China to join the YHA China. Located in the northern part of the city, North Hostel is conveniently located; only two kilometers from the train station and 1.5 kilometres from Central Avenue. Moreover, an airport express bus station is located just 600 metres from the hostel. Housed in an old lock factory, the hostel has many large, spacious rooms and a simple interior. Extremely clean, the hostel focuses on music, film and photography culture, with a big selection of books, magazines and films for customers’ use dispersed throughout the building.

Harbin North International Youth Hostel offers twin rooms, king-size bed rooms, three-bed rooms and many more. Most of the rooms have their own private bathrooms. Facilities include WIFI internet, self-service laundry, freshly ground coffee, free computer access, free CDs, DVD listening, a reading room, a bar and recreation area, magazine browsing, a self-catering kitchen, travel info service etc. YHA members can avail of 5 RMB discount per bed per person or a 10 RMB discount per room per person.
