Woman Barred From Exam, After Losing Weight, Because She Doesn’t Match Her Photo ID card

Woman from Nanjing was barred from her exams because she didn’t look like the photo on her Chinese ID card. The photo was taken 10 years ago when she was at her heaviest, since then she has lost a significant amount of weight and it is true, she does look very different.

When asked, an officer for the PSB said that if people change their appearance significantly through cosmetic surgery or weight loss (or we suppose weight gain), they should get a new ID card.

Well all we have to say in reply, you shouldn’t make changing/updating ID cards so difficult then, should you? Hope this woman gets to sit whatever exam she was trying to sit soon.

Start asking your Chinese friends. It's literally easier to just go by a different name the rest of your life than change the ID card. My friend's father works in the provincial government, and his guanxi is still not enough to get an ID with the correct birthday.
