Two Wenzhou Officials Dismissed from Post after Brawling in a KTV Parlor

There are a lot of brawls in China and no place is secure from the flying fists, whether in the Forbidden City or out in the middle of the streets. The latest incident to make the news involves two government officials (ex government officials now, to be precise) from Rui’an City in Wenzhou who beat each other black and blue at a KTV parlor.

While one may be forgiven for thinking that the terrible singing or painfully bad playlist might have been the catalyst, the real reason for the brawl remains unknown. A netizen (who else!) called “猛料挖掘机” first brought the incident to public in a forum thread on September 5. Mr. Jin, the secretary of the Xianjiang Street Party Committee, took his boss to a KTV joint in Rui’an City, Wenzhou. Mr. Xu of the Party Committee United Front Committee and Mr. Ye, the office director of party and government, were also present and it was these two who suddenly began to beat the living crap out of each other.

Mr. Ye suffered from two broken ribs, while not much is known about Mr. Xu’s injuries – presumably because he had the upper hand in the brawl. According to the netizen, the bill for that evening’s KTV entertainment came to 1866 RMB and the netizen seemed to suggest that perhaps it was paid using public funds.

On September 9, after the incident went viral, Rui’an City dismissed the two officials from their posts but said that they did not have any evidence that the bill was paid for using public funds. Furthermore, no public comment was made whether the bad music played a factor in the brawl.
