20-year-old Sun Xuewei, currently a freshman at Chang’an University in Xi’an, returned to his hometown of Ziyang in Sichuan Province for the Spring Festival holiday. What makes his story unusual is that he did it on a mountain bike. He plotted his route online, and then using the navigation on his phone mounted to the handlebars, he set off. Sun covered about 100 km per day on his bike, riding along National Highway 108. Eight days later Sun arrived in Chengdu, having already covered 928 km by bike. He left his bike in the city and road a train the rest of the way to Ziyang. According to Sun, this trip was just a small goal—he hopes to bike all the way to Lhasa this summer.
