A stowaway mouse on a flight from Changchun, Jilin to Shenzhen caused the flight to be delayed for 16 hours during a scheduled stop in Yantai, Shandong.

“The flight left at 3:25 pm on March 25, from Changchun’s Longjia airport, and arrived in Yantai at 5:30 pm,” said a passenger named Yu, who frequently travels between Changchun and Shenzhen. The Shenzhen Airlines flight was scheduled to take off from Yantai’s Penglai International Airport at 6:30 pm. The passengers returned to the plane to be told that the flight could not take off, and that they needed to get off the plane and bring all their baggage with them.

“The staff told us that was a mouse on the plane and that it had chewed wires in the aircraft.” Yu said that the announcement scared her. “How could a mouse get into a plane? This could have posed a huge threat to our safety,” she said.

Passengers were compensated 400 Yuan, and taken to a nearby hotel for the night. The flight took off the next morning for Shenzhen.

Shenzhen Airlines staff said that the plane could not take off before the mouse was caught for safety reasons. The staff member added that the mouse could have snuck onto the aircraft through the cargo channel or the passenger channel. The mouse could have also come from the parking lot of the airport, and found a gap through which to climb into the plane.
