In Mainland China, the parents who used to be annoyed by puppy love of middle school students now have a new worry—there are obviously more homosexuals among middle school students due to the influences of external factors and social problems. As exposed by Zhan Chunyun, the general manager and consultant of Kangleyuan Psychological Consulting Co., Ltd with chain medical institutions in many cities of Guangdong, since 2008, the number of psychological consulting cases of gays he undertook has rapidly increased, including children of some Hong Kong people, and the number of homosexuals in Shenzhen and Guangzhou increased by 200% and 100% respectively and the same increase trend in Zhuhai and Foshan.
With regard to the annually increased homosexual tendency among youngsters, Chinese well-known socialist Li Yinhe stated that the annoyed parents and society should treat it with an open attitude, offering more tolerance and acceptance.
As Wen Wei Po reports, according to the introduction by Zhan Chunyun, the number of psychological consulting cases of homosexuals he undertook in Shenzhen in 2008 amounts to more than 80, 80% of which were youngsters, a sharply increase of more than 200% from 2007. And he notices a new phenomenon that previously the proportion of homosexuals among boys was higher than that among girls, but now the proportion among girls has surpassed that among boys, including children from Hong Kong who study in schools of Shenzhen. These homosexuals include middle school students, high school students and university students.
Zhan says, in Guangzhou, the cases of little homosexuals he undertook in 2007 was only more than 10, but the number has increased to 20 in 2008, increased by almost 100%. The numbers of cases undertaken by consulting institutions in Zhuhai and Foshan also present an increasing tendency, but not as fast as in Shenzhen. He analyzes that Shenzhen is a migrating city with greater tolerance, which is inclined to the influences of Hong Kong, Taiwan and Western countries. He also states that besides the increased number of cases for treatment, there may be more tacit cases and cases that are not found by parents.
Huge social pressure and many cases for passive treatment
The reporter consulted an attending doctor about the problem of youngster homosexuals in Sex Psychology Consulting Room of Kangning Hospital, a well-known psychiatric hospital in Shenzhen. The doctor said, youngsters were easily remodeled, so if they had such tendency, they must be treated promptly; while if they have grown to adults, they would be fixed, then the difficulty for treatment at that time would be greater. Zhan stated that, some youngster homosexuals or their parents worried that they or their children would be mistakenly considered to be psychosis, so they always chose psychological consulting companies for better protection of their privacy. Miss Shang, a psychological consultant in Luohu District, Shenzhen stated that the proportion of youngster homosexuals undertaken by her colleagues and herself accounted for less than 10%, but she also felt that this phenomenon presented an increasing tendency.
Zhan told the reporter that the youngster homosexuals he treated always came to him for treatment because of sharply increased repression, distress after they could not be accepted by society, or because they were found as homosexuals by their parents.
A teacher teaching in a middle school in Futian District, Shenzhen who was unwilling to expose his/her name, said that the number of homosexuals among youngsters was smaller than that of heterosexual puppy love, so students with this kind of tendency were covert and it was difficult for teachers to find out. Teachers could only hear some gossip among students sometimes, but few students might publicly announce they were homosexuals.
The reporter learned from staff in Shenzhen Youth Newspaper that headmasters in many schools were unduly reticent on the sensitive subject of homosexuals among middle school students and were not willing to make others outside the schools know about that, let alone the media attention so as not to bring pressure to students with such tendency. The reporter asked some students in Grade one of a high school in Luohu District the questions about homosexuals among middle school students, they walked away quickly as they heard this topic, and only one student said he had heard of intimate behaviors between two girls, but they were quite convert.
As introduced by Zhan, he also undertook cases of students from Hong Kong, some of whom studied in Shenzhen and some came to see doctor from Hong Kong, mostly accompanied by parents.
As recommended by Dr. Zhan, a parent told the reporter that when she came across from the QQ chat log of her daughter that she had the tendency of homosexual, she felt the sky fell. She said, she had only one child, so she was more worried that if her daughter could not carry on the family line when becoming a homosexual, which could not be accepted by relatives and friends, so her family and her had great pressure, then they attempted to persuade her daughter to undertake psychological treatment.
Compared with middle schools students, homosexuals among university students are much more open and fearless. Mei Ying (anonym), a schoolgirl from Hong Kong studying in a university in Guangdong fell in love with Ai Qin (anonym), another girl from Hong Kong. Mei Ying used to study in a university in Guangzhou, but when Ai Qin transferred to another branch school outside Guangzhou, Mei Ying applied to transfer to the same branch school campus in order to stay with Ai Qin. Therefore, they could live in the same dormitory by themselves, living and dating like lovers. As introduced by a student in a university in Northwest China, among the nearly 20,000 students in his university, more than 200 students had publicly admitted that they were homosexuals, if tacit ones were added, the number would be larger.

Seven influencing factors lead to the increase of young homosexuals
With regard to the increasing tendency of young homosexuals in Pearl River Delta and even the whole country, Zhan Chunyun analyzed that was influenced by seven factors.
1. Students in middle school are at the stages of sex psychology and psychological growth, and they are inclined to be influenced by external environments to change their sexual orientation. Cases have shown that some children may suffer from traumatic shadow due to violence of the same gender;
2. Due to the influences of the whole cultural atmosphere and media reports, such as hype news for honoring unisex girls when Super Girls were quite popular, many schoolgirls are influenced to imitate one after another. Some middle school and high school girls are proud of their unisex or virilism hairstyle and dressing;
3. There are always some movie stars involving in homosexual rumors, so the students worshipping these stars will unscrupulously imitate them;
4. Influenced by homosexual websites and social gatherings, youngsters view and participate in them with curiosity and may be influenced to be homosexuals;
5. There are more single parent families in which children are lacking in father love or mother love, the probability for them to be homosexuals are much higher than children from intact families;
6. Classmates being imitate with each other. Previously in campus, students hide such tendency in the heart, but now it is more open and arouses the imitation of other classmates;
7. The youngsters who are already homosexuals may induce non-homosexuals or people with homosexual tendency. Homosexual marriage opened and allowed abroad may also be an influencing factor.
